Prospectors Delite was a Kentucky bred thoroughbred born in 1989. Out of a Hoist the Flag mare, Up the Flagpole, and the daughter of one the century’s greatest sires, Mr. Prospector, Prospector's Delite was an accomplished Grade 1 winner and the 2003 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year.

Prospectors Delite was a leading three year old female and won many of the U.S.'s most notable filly stakes some of which include the G1 Acorn Stakes the G1 Ashland Stakes. Prospector's Delite also ran in the Kentucky Oaks but came in third, still a noteworthy accomplishment. Once she proved her might on the track she would then go on to the breeding shed for a successful career as a broodmare. [1]
While Prospector's Delite was a grade one winner she is best known for her role as a broodmare. Her first foal sired by the renowned A.P. Indy was a Grade 1 winner and fetched an astounding $575,000 at a Keeneland July yearling sale. As the young filly was out of an untested mare she had a lot to prove and she didn't let her mother down. Tomisue's Delight as the filly would go on to be called fetched over $1,000,000 in earnings by winning stakes like the G1 Ruffian Stakes and the G1 Personal Ensign Handicap. Again she was bred to A.P Indy and again she produced another durable stakes winner, Rock Slide, who is currently standing at stud in Woodbine, Maryland at Shamrock Farms. Delite also produced the European stakes winner Monashee Mountain who was bought in a 1998 Keeneland sale for $1,000,000 and the good stakes winner Delta Music who earned over $200,000 in winnings.
But Delite is best known for her son the 2003 Horse of the Year, Mineshaft. Mineshaft easily earned over $2,000,000 in earnings and won such presages races like the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Mineshaft currently stands at stud Lane's End Farm (the farm of his father stood at) and at the start of his breeding career he commanding a fee of $100,000. His fee has dropped to $25,000 but that is to be expected in the lower economic conditions that the United States has been experiencing and due to the fact that he took a bit slowly to his new career.
Prospector's Delite died in 2001 at the age of 12 after suffering complications during the birth of a Storm Cat colt. Delite quickly developed laminitis and had to be put down her new born colt only survived 3 weeks after his mother's death.[2]
